Fun on the Run

When the boys were younger, I carried the kitchen sink with me. Books, toys, crayons, snacks, first aid supplies; you name it, I probably had it with me. I now revel in carrying with me a mere handbag (or a camera bag). The downside to this is those unexpected times like trips to see the pediatrician. Last week I had to take Abbott to the clinic, and we waited and waited and waited for a test he needed. As pictured in the top photo, the boys started wrestling, playing hide and seek...

...lots of general silliness.

One of the things that was abandoned to a book shelf after the diaper bag went away is a great book called Fun on the Run. (A couple of years ago, I gave it to many people as a holiday gift, I like it so much.) This is full of ideas for the doctor's office, restaurants, grocery stores....you get the idea. This book is now going to have a permanent home in the car so that the next time we spend hours somewhere unexpectedly, we have some fun ideas for how to pass the time.

I was also very happy to give up the gigantic diaper bag - although I have to fess up that I ditched it long before we outgrew diapers in our house. It was just such a pain!

Adorable pictures!

Kids tend to just find things to do!

Don't you wonder why the pediatrician's office always seems to have the longest wait? I remember having four little ones and waiting so long, first in the waiting room and then in the examining room. I was tempted to let them run wild just so they would try to get us out of there!

I always wonder how Moms manage to pack up everything necessary to step out the door with little one(s) then try to look put together themselves. Is it exhausting???

Your pictures capture perfectly the antsy-ness of children waiting far too long! But how sweet they play together! That book sounds very resourceful! Moms have to work soooo hard!!!! My hat is off to all of you. xo

You are the one special Mom - always at the ready with the camera. Those boys are special and I hope they know that about you!

Great book recommendation. I think I might buy one of those for me and one for a friend's upcoming birthday.

Any more books that you and the boys really love and are used over again?
