My January List

Am I the only one who finds January long? This time of year, I find myself a little more attentive to the things that make me happy. They're extra-appreciated amidst the cold and the dark, and the sometimes dreary days. Here are some of the things that are making me smile this week.

New books.

Catching up.

Family drawing time.

Getting outside as often as I can.

Feel free to share what's making you smile this week if you wish.

Hi There,
Just found you through A Cup of Jo. Have to share that the things that are making me smile this week are my family and the fact that my husband is now in remission from bone cancer! Yah!!!!

Rough question today. Despite my word for the year, I'm fighting my annual bout of the winter blues. (and it's a bit worse this year than normal)

However, there's always a bright side. This week I'm enjoying a. reading some guilty pleasure books b. getting lots of knitting done. c. being able to clean out my bedroom as the living room is cleared of Christmas decorations and the regular ones take their places d. some great new vegetarian recipes and e. my wonderful rice bag - which keeps my feet warm at night.

Lecia- a very nice and warm posting today. This week being tucked under the comforter on the sofa and feeling safe from the cold weather outside.
In general life makes me smile- the good, the not so good, sunny days, rainy days etc... The whole package makes me happy.
Thanks my friend! hugs...

Ok, so I take an early morning walk around my sister's Brick NJ neighborhood with my sister and her neighbor and they are complaining about the cold.......but we are having a great walk...I don't think you should complain about 20 degree weather to an Alaskan, do you? It was very "refreshing".... :D

Great post - I hate January. Always get the blues. Diving into a new book is a great thing to look forward to! I love your positive approach!

I'm smiling about my new gym membership as well! I'm also smiling because I know my copy of "Jamie at Home" will probably come in the mail today and I can start making some amazing food!

Well for me...January is my re-group, re-organize, catch-up month and it isn't a long enough month for all that! I play a lot of paddle, ski, and try to be outdoors as much as possible to combat any winter blues.
As for joys?
We have a lot more evening fires, red wine and cuddles under a warm afghan .

This is hard in such a cold month. Clear skies when they come. Smiles when I can get them. Your photographs are beautiful. You make folded laundry gorgeous.

Right now, a warming and cozy mug of hot cocoa is making me smile, although the cats are eyeing it hopefully so I'm sure there will be a struggle later.

It took me a few days to find something, but seeing all the bird's nests nestled high in denuded trees makes me smile in the winter.

LOVE this post Lecia! The photo of your feet soaking made me laugh out loud--what a great image!

This week I'm really loving getting to the gym on a regular basis. I've been finding that going in the morning not only ensures that I actually do it, but I feel so much more productive for the rest of the day too--and more likely to eat properly as well.

And I hear you about catching up too. It seems like a million little things piled up over the holidays and I'm racing just to stay on top of things!
