I hope your weekend was all you hoped for! It was gloriously summery here; we enjoyed some time at our neighborhood pool for the first time this year, and playing at the beach, among other things.
Recently Abbott's first grade class came up with these goals for their PE class; to me, they seem like great goals for life:
1. Play fairly and by the rules.
2. Be nice to each other.
3. Solve problems with words, and using nice voices.
4. Worry about YOU--not everyone else. It takes a lot of negative energy to worry about everyone else.
5. Don't make assumptions - talk to the person before assuming the worst when you don't know the whole story.

Gillian's kindergarten clase developed their own set of rules at the beginning of the year...and they've used them every since! The two lists are remarkably similar, which leads me to believe that children are pretty smart when you let them work things out on their own.

The Professor (in my life) has taught PE at the college level as his profession and am anxious to show him what Physical Education teachers are asking of their students - he will be SO proud!!!

It's good to stress the "talking" part, especially in this day and age: I see lots of kids my in country going through media to communicate and relate to others (text messaging, emailing or chatting etc)
Amazing how young children can come up with these relatively simple thoughts and yet us adults can often have a difficult time remembering them....what a lovely list of words.
