try something new

(above photos taken at a mom's party the night of graduation)

Wednesday was Cal's preschool graduation. At the ceremony, the director described an experience participating in a demolition to help prepare a new preschool space. She hadn't ever done anything remotely like it before and would rather have gone back home, but duty required she stay. A parent patiently taught her where to put her hammer and what to do. She quickly got the hang of it and the task became fun. As adults, we are occasionally faced with learning something new, and doing so is often intimidating to us. Children have experiences like this every day, often multiple times a day. Don't kids do such a good job taking on new things again and again, usually without incident?

Next week I'll give you my summer list of things to do with children, and share some wonderful stories Cal wrote at preschool over the year that he just brought home.

I wish you all a lovely weekend!

I am looking forward to reading Cal's stories. Your children are both so imaginative.

You are right, children do a wonderful job learning new things even when incidents occur: just watching a toddler taking his first steps, falling, and trying again relentlessly is a lesson for us adults!

Absolutely. thinking of how much a little one 'learns' in the first couple of years of their little lives. They are so willing to 'step out' of a place of comfort and we, as adult move gingerly. Wonderful post Lecia.

That´s for me part of the fun to visit other blogs...the possibility to learn something every day!
Have a great weekend, Jeannette

learning is what separates the beast from the man.
Cultivating and appreciation for learning at an early or at any age is the reason I wake joyfully each day.
Off to my daughter's school for the Science, "Young Inventors" program!
I will look forward to your Summer List!

Try new things... yes, that is one of our summer goals around here. Kids do it so readily, indeed it is how they learn... despite the learning factor adults are usually much more resistant. Sad.

You know...your post was exactly the sort of thing I needed today. Now I'm wondering, what exactly would happen if I committed myself to something new each and every day. It could be something small...and who knows what would happen? I may have to try that!

I never thought of it that way. Very powerful. I forget that children are such information sponges and that they are greatly challenged daily. Very inspiring message and applies to all ages. Thanks sweet Lecia!! (and Cal) xoxo

lovely insight!
thanks for sharing and making me ponder this truth- perhaps this is part of why we have children, to show us that new things and change are really so scary after all.
