the great unknown

(My paternal Grandmother with Abbott in 2003)

(My paternal Grandmother and Alexi's father with us at our wedding)

I know all your life you wondered
About that step we all take alone
How far does the spirit travel on the journey
It must surely lead near heaven
And it thrills me to the bone
to know Daddy knows the great unknown....

(April 24, 1981 by Rick Springfield, written about the death of his father)

My paternal Grandmother died peacefully yesterday morning, after suffering a stroke and subsequent coma a couple of weeks ago. This is the first time I've lost anyone that close to me. I've thought about the song lyrics above a lot today (the song is one that was on an album I had in high school), because someone I've known and loved all my life now is up there and knows what this is all about down here.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of someone so special in your life. And I am sorry for your pain.
It is the memories of love and laughter that will sustain you and forever stay in your heart. Don't stop talking to her, I firmly believe she'll be around you. If I lived nearby, I would hug you.

The beauty about the great unknown is that the veil can be mighty thin, and our loved ones are always closer than we think.

All of my love to you and your family, and my greatest sympathies on your loss.

Prayers and love to you and your family.

My beloved grandfather passed this year and I understand the feeling. Be aware that God willing this is only a temporary seperation and the love she leaves behind goes on in you and your children.

You are wonderful! I admire how you sustain yourself with sunny fortitude always
I wish there were a way to drive all your tears into a total oblivion... but that would be as easy as driving all this rain back up into the clouds

Huge Hugs

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Just the Sunday before the loss of your dear grandmother I lost my grandfather. Like you this is the first person that I was close to who has passed. It has been sad. I've spent many hours over the last ten days thinking back on all of the memories. Please know that you are not alone in your grief.
