I recently read somewhere a quotation by someone who said life has few surprises; the sentiment took me by surprise and made me a bit sad. Yesterday morning, I glanced out the window and saw this most amazing sight on my neighbor's roof. I've never before seen a heron with a whole fish (anyone know what kind of fish it is?). After I took a couple of pictures it started to fly off; I assumed I'd startled it until I saw the second heron approach, in hot pursuit. Life by the water, at least, is full of surprises.

I love watching things happen in nature, its always beautiful.
i´m constantly surprised by the beauty i find in the every day... happy week!
I don't think I've had ANY surprises lately! I guess if I have to think hard about it, that means I haven't, right? How quickly the weather has become cold here in the Northeast was definitely a surprise, does that count?
You were as lucky as that heron, to catch that pic! Love it!
Funny, I added my logo in the form of a "favicon" to my site and it will be added to my blog shortly-
Love the scripty L and those birds are sketch-worthy!

Funny- I think life is just chuck-full of surprises. Each day something surprises me! Aren't you lucky to have your camera right-at-hand for these fabulous photos.
Your favicon looks very nice (a welcome new word and concept for me - which is not a surprise, I'm afraid:))
No surprises for me lately but I'm keeping my eyes open. Love your surprise photo.
life would seem pretty bleak without surprises, wouldn't it? how sad for that person.
good to see that your life is juicy, though, lecia. your pictures, no surprise, are beautiful here. you have such a great eye.
OK I feel like I am taking the eye test at DMV-- For the life of me I cannot spy the L Flavicon up by your header.... eeeek..... love the excitement on your neighbor's roof!!
You're so lucky to be able to enjoy such views from your window! These poictures are gorgeous!

That is so amazing! I have an hour-long commute on the train each way to and from work every day. During this time we go through the beautiful Swedish countryside and I get to see the most amazing things. When I get homesick I try to remember that I would never see deer, horses, pheasants, hawks, foxes or ox during my commute in Philadelphia. I try to just enjoy the moment, my time here, for however long it lasts. Life definitely has many surprises.
i think it depends on peoples expectations of a surprise. Some place their surprises on such high pedestals that they become harder to delight and surprise.. some find pleasure in even the smallest of surprises, they haven't become jaded by the world yet, they may even be happier.. i have my days... right now i am enjoying all the little surprises :)
Oh thanks for the head nod! :)
I think life is surprising every day. Even with a routine!
How cool, Lecia! Just the other day the same thing happened here, except with a wood stork. He gulped down the entire fish right in front of me. I love watching sea birds. xo
