reflections

Inspired by Shari, I've spent some time this week reflecting on 2009. I'll be joining her in answering some of the questions posed by Gwen Bell over the next few weeks as a way of preserving in my memory some of the best moments of the past year.

My favorite restaurant experience:

The night before Thanksgiving, Alexi and I left the kids with Grandma and Grandpa and went out on a somewhat impromptu date to one of our favorite restaurants. Not only did they have space for us without a reservation, but our favorite table was available. The restaurant remained uncrowded throughout the rest of the evening; I suspect most people were home cooking and preparing. It was such a gift to sit and relax together in spite of all the hustle and bustle of planning and preparing for Thanksgiving and a week of hosting guests. The food was perfect as it always is, but we could have been eating cereal and it would have been equally enjoyable.

Over the next couple of weeks, I want to make sure that amidst the shopping and wrapping and crafting and baking and parties, we save some quiet spaces of time together, just like that perfect meal we shared the night before Thanksgiving.

Lecia, the few times we eat out is just like that: a peaceful dinner, when all we have to do is sit, relax and share a meal together. (I see persimmons in your photo:))

What a wonderful idea to get away just the two of you, for a quiet evening together the night before Thanksgiving. Hold fast to that calm refuge. xoxoxo

that's a great wish--jon and i spent all sunday together with literally zero contact with anyone. it was the perfect thing to do together before the bustle of this month. (i felt like we were teenagers, not responsible to anyone!)

sometimes it just isn't about where you are and what you eat.. it's the company that makes a night memorable and fun

I've started to do my own reflections for the year. It's a good thing to do, and it helps me to not only appreciate what I have but also to prepare for the next year.
