about the food

Yesterday, amidst cries of 'ow!' and 'are you ok?' emanating from the boys' room when they were supposed to be cleaning, I finally made a plan for Easter. Because I love my husband, I'm going to roast a leg of lamb along with potatoes and carrots, and I'll roast some asparagus separately. I'm planning to make this as a side dish, and these meyer lemon custard cakes for dessert. I haven't made this dessert before; I have a bad habit of serving things for the first time on major holidays, and it doesn't always go well. I can't help it - I like trying new things. I did buy some cute farm animal shaped truffles as a backup dessert just in case.

On another note, I've put together a collection of photos for a project I'm working on; take a look if you'd like.

I wish you a very happy Easter or Passover if you're celebrating.

I always make desserts or dinners for the first time on big holidays. I sometimes wonder if it's a good choice, but the excitement and wonder of preparing for the first time makes it worth it!

haha ! I'm not so adventurous !
I stick to the traditional family cake (from my grandmother, the one who raised me) =
a savarin cake
http://www.recipegoldmine.com/worldfrench/french-ring-cake.html
in a child-friendly version (partly orang juice with just a hint of rum)
it is bake only once a year, only at Easter.
As for my husband, I'm not half as brave as you : not way I ever cook rabbit (I get so upset about this !) for him !
happy Easter to you & your family

We're doing lamb too, Lecia, but a rack of lamb as there are so few of us this year. And I made some carrot cake cupcakes from Inn Cuisine's blog. Everything else will be good standby recipes!

Have a wonderful Easter with your beautiful family!

Sounds amazing! We made lemon curd for our wedding--that cemented a place in my heart for it!

Sounds like you'll be having a super yummy Easter meal - I won't be cooking a darn thing, as we're going to my aunt's for lunch, but I'm sure I'll be needing a walk afterwards so's to burn off some of those calories!!

Your so-called 'bad habit' is par for the course in this family! We always spring new recipes on holidays...a trick we learned from my grandmother. I only remember it being a complete fail once - the cranberry sauce with horseradish in it....

I have to admit, while I am the daily cook, my husband is the talented one, so it was he who took on our Easter meal and everyone was glad he did! I love this photo and your album of pictures that preceded it. Your new header is beautiful!

I love lamb! I think it's the only kind of meat I really like - lamb and salami, of course:) Nice photos, I'm curious to learn what you're working on, my favorite is the one of your boys happily scuffling!
