We had an opportunity to sample and compare the Shuksan strawberry to four other varieties; we were impressed by the noticeable difference in sweetness. This memorable event ended with delicious strawberry shortcake made by Jon Rowley with biscuits provided by Anthony's that were baked that morning, and strawberry ice cream made by farmer Chris McKnight. A truly special day.

This looks like the perfect day, I especially love the hands full of strawberries. You know, I've never been to a place to pick them myself but it's such a wonderful idea. The ice cream has me drooling.
This looks fantastic! Some of my best childhood memories are picking strawberries with my mom. Love the red-stained hands :) Have a great Monday!
What a delight, Lecia! For all ages. Bet you had as much fun as the boys!
it looks like a wonderful day.
the strawberry shortcake makes my mouth water (almost lunch time!)
your photos are beautiful, lecia. you know that strawberry picking is one of my favorite things. i am so glad you had such a lovely day.
local strawberries are so much better than the ones that are shipped from California. Looks wonderful!
This is the coolest post. What a great experience.
Holy cow, Lecia. I'm so glad I finally found you (thank you twitter - I never thought I'd say that!!) Someone/thing highjacked your blog address, as you know.
This strawberries look so good - I'm getting hungry...
Glad you found the time to take some pictures in between all the strawberry picking :=)
Greetings from Germany - we have strawberry season this month as well :=)) Claudia
So good to see you! I got "bumped" to the other site and it scared me! Nothing worse than losing a favourite blog!
the strawberries look so juicy and delicious! it sounds like you guys had a wonderful time :)
This is really wonderful and those berries look delicious! I went to the link for Jon Rowley and it was interesting. How did you find out about his events? There wasn't an event page on the link. What a great opportunity for you and your family! Looks like you had a sunny day in Seattle too! :)
I'm just beginning to learn about the different varieties of strawberries. When I bought my transplants, I was given one plant that is growing very differently from the others, and is much bigger and is propagating like a weed. Unfortunately, I can't judge the berries, because Rebecca has taken to picking them as soon as she sees them, and can't be taught to wait until they're red and ripe:(
Thank you Laura!
Deborah: I found out about it via twitter - you can 'follow' him and get updates about seasonal food happenings.....
Francesca: funny about Rebecca :)
Thanks Mariel!
And thanks to the rest of you who commented before they all got erased. xoxo
