In celebration of the longest day of the year, I took a short walk around my neighborhood last evening between 9 and 9:30pm to enjoy the very last bit of daylight; here's a bit of what I saw. I find I'm more acutely tuned in to sound as it gets darker. Particularly, I notice the constant sound of the waves at night like no other time of day.
Did you do anything special to acknowledge the summer solstice? Happy Tuesday!
In France and Germany, I've become used to having la fĂȘte de la musique to mark the solstice and I love that, wandering through the streets with all these different rhythms. Although being out by the water sounds wonderful too.
Thank you Nicola. The photos are crisp in low light because of the quality of the lens I used - 85L - and because the sensor of the camera has relatively low noise. Prime (not zoom) lenses tend to be higher quality and will produce a better quality image. Fred Miranda (www.fredmiranda.com) is a source to check out for used lenses.
Hello! I'm Lecia. I live with my husband and two boys by the ocean in beautiful Seattle. This space contains my day to day reflections about parenting, marriage, food, photography and life in general. Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to visit!

The first picture is magical! It's like the flowers are floating in the air! Gorgeous!
It looks beautiful, I love your pictures.
Summer Solstice was so warm here, and looked fantastic.
Gorgeous pictures...last year we were in Olso Norway...it never got dark. Beautiful place....but one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Well, if I was a druid......
We were out there too, just enjoying the special day.
I never celebrate the solstices..although I often think I should change that.
The weather is so miserably hot and humid here that it's just not that much fun right now.
Barbara: Growing up in Alaska we had a solstice parade that involved everyone - druids, christians, jews and otherwise :)
Love your photos!

Stunning, Lecia. Want to share any camera tips for getting such crisp photos in low light?
Nicola
