summer continues

On the trail to the beach yesterday, we noticed quite a few ripe blackberries. We did the logical thing and changed our plans to accommodate picking and eating, eating and picking. This summer the boys have become particular about picking only those berries that are perfectly ripe (is it plump? is it slightly squishy?). And, Cal pointed out to me their sweet scent - I'd never noticed it before. He carried his bucket near his face to enjoy the full sensory experience.

The beach will still be there tomorrow.

I am jealous you found blackberries, I have not seen any here south of Seattle. But I love your containers! For picking we usually cut plastic milk containers so the handle and bottom are left, and then put a wide ribbon through them to hang around the neck.

I wish there was someplace around here to pick blackberries - my son just loves 'em, as do I. I mashed some with a little water and sugar the other night to use as a topping on ice cream. Yum!

I can taste the berries now. I think this is the #1 thing I miss about not living in the NW. No free berries here in Georgia.

Oh yum! When I was a little girl we would go visit a great-aunt and uncle every year, and Dad would spend hours picking blackberries that we would take home and freeze. And when I worked at the historic site, I used to come in early so that I could go pick berries in the wild brambles behind the house.
