annually

One nice thing about my children having birthdays in close proximity is that they're able to have their annual physical exams at the same time. Yesterday all four of us went to see their pediatrician for this purpose. This visit always gets to me - seeing their growth charts with dots on the grid from infancy; seeing the self portraits in their charts they've drawn every year. Noticing ways they are so different this year than they were the last time we were here. Remembering the occasional visits we've had that were filled with anxiety. This doctor has known our boys almost as long as we have. As we were leaving he told us "you are doing a great job. they look great". It stayed in my heart the rest of the day.

You are so wonderful at catching those precious moments, both with words and your beautiful pictures. You seem to make the most of every season and I've always felt it's important to savour the little things that make up the dust of our daily lives before they slip away forever.

Of course you're doing a great job, and you also look great reaching up to pick berries!

My kids' birthdays aren't even remotely close - and yet I also share their yearly appointments! Sadly, though, we've had to swap around docs for a variety of reasons, so I don't have the great relationship you have with your pediatrition.

And, by the way, I absolutely adore your hair color!
