Driving home from church early this afternoon, I spotted this eagle perched low in a tree on the ocean side of the street. I pulled over with the thought of taking a picture. It flew across the street to someone's yard, landed, picked up the straw you see in it's feet and then flew back across. Perhaps s/he's using the straw as an easy source of nest making material? I think the runner you see in the background (bottom picture) about had a heart attack at the sight of such a huge bird approaching it at close range.This is blocks from where we live and the jogger you see is on the path I usually run on. I can't wait to show these pictures to the neighbor whose lawn the eagle was sitting on.

Those are fantastic pictures! I imagine he's definitly building a nest and is very happy to have found an easy source of materials. Poor runner...that would scare me to death!
It sure looks like the eagle was in the home nesting mode. I bet the Jogger will be talking about that for a long time.

amazing photos! the closest i ever came to one was while sea kayaking...we went right by one guarding its nest on a tiny little island. it very cautiously and forbiddingly watched us go by. what a great experience.
