Hearing the children singing, every year, I am overcome.
One of the songs performed by the fifth graders was the Bill Withers song Lean on Me. It's an old favorite of mine. I'll leave you with the lyrics, in case you aren't familiar with this wonderful song. Here's a link to a video of Bill Withers performing it.
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If there is a load you need to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me.

I love watching children create and perform. It's so pure and beautiful.
I stopped in at the perfect time. I love children's art. The self portraits are so neat and would make wonderful notecards. Big kudos to Abbott!
Have a golden weekend my friend. xo
Ah! I am starting my Friday with a smile, thanks to this post!
Charming post. As always. Thanks Lecia.
That song always gets me! Great artwork from the children. It looks like a talented group of students. Along with a great teacher to support them.
Thank you all so much! I'll be sure to pass on your messages to Abbott. xo
It does seem a very special night.
Very sweet. I just returned from my daughters' elementary awards/band concert. Wonderful to see optimistic, excited young children.
By the way, you mentioned that Cal is reminiscing about being six. Have you ever read the Seven Year Old Wonder Book? Delightful bedtime reading. My twin daughters love it. I am looking forward to reading it to my son soon.

Oh....is it self portrait time again. Lecia, I feel as though I have "known" you for a long time now. This is the third I have seen (or maybe I saw two last year)? He is getting GOOD! And lean on me...that takes me back. Nothing more heart twisting than grade schoolers singing together.
LOVE this set of pictures. They just say alot about being a kid...thinking like a kid! And the colors. :) The post above it has no 'comment' button, at least on my screen...but those are great too. An Anniversary? No better anchor than knowing you're with the right person...
This is an emotional post for me....as our twins shall be graduating from High School and I feel that it all went way to fast. We cannot get the years back - I love how you have these photos to remind you of all the leaning and learning. Best to you and your "school" of wonderful students.
