a night to remember

Tonight was our school's Spring Arts Showcase, an annual event that includes each grade level performing a couple of songs, and artwork from the year displayed throughout the campus for viewing. Abbott played the piano to accompany the third grade classes for one of their songs. Over the course of the past few weeks of rehearsals, I learned that it's harder than it might seem to accompany singing. I was incredibly proud that he volunteered to play, that he put himself out there. And, I was proud of what a fine job he did.

Hearing the children singing, every year, I am overcome.

One of the songs performed by the fifth graders was the Bill Withers song Lean on Me. It's an old favorite of mine. I'll leave you with the lyrics, in case you aren't familiar with this wonderful song. Here's a link to a video of Bill Withers performing it.
