I'm thinking about a friend scheduled for a mastectomy tomorrow.
And about Jon Nelson, one of the most inspiring people I've ever met. He died last week while we were traveling; his influence will be with me always. Take a minute and read about his extraordinary life.
Thoughts of birth and death and everything in between.
We spent two afternoons of our week in Nova Scotia at the cottage of Alexi's father's friend Christine, swimming, picking blueberries, fishing, and playing with the bullfrogs. This set is dedicated to the memory of Jon Nelson and the time I spent with him and his family at their lake cabin in Minnesota many years ago.

what a big frog - the kind that would make me jump out of my skin :)!
the way my life went, I too often think of beginnings and ends, of happiness and suffering - all part of the same experience, life.
Oh, the waterlilies, the calmness of the lake, the walks in the woods picking berries. I could lose myself in your photos for hours. What a wonderful summer! Thanks so much for your words and I hope all is well with you and those dear to you.
9 is such a big deal! In my experience with 9-year-olds they suddenly become BIG that year. So much more mature, so interesting to talk to, so fun to play with.
I am sorry to hear about your friend.
I love that picture story post! It can tells more than thousand words gathered around. You really had fun and that is important. I love lake excursions.
I'm sorry about the friend you lost, and will say a prayer today for the one whois facing surgery.
Loved the story about the hospital. It's so good to look back at a birth which such fun memories!
Gillian looked at today's pictures with me, and has decided that you were in one of the most beautiful places ever.
Wonderful photos! I especially enjoyed the frogs and lily pads. And I have to ask about your shoes. They look an awful lot like Saltwater Sandals (Maya has some in yellow, as well). And I have seen other moms with the same sandals. But I haven't been able to find them in adult sizes. So either you have wee little footies, or you have a secret that needs to be shared. :)
Firstly, I must tell you that I missed you during your week away! I am so happy you had a great time in NS and I feel your sadness about your friend(s). Your photos are perfect glimpses of your sweet days. Thank you for their beauty and your refreshing words.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Lyndsay: saltwater sandals, indeed; bought them via amazon! Love them: comfortable and cute :)
Funny that. I too was just taking pictures of my child and a pond and frogs and grandparents this past week. And I too mourn the passing of a good man, even though my time of friendship with him has long since passed. Faint strains of U2's "One" come lingering. Best,
such life filled photos- they are lovely.
i will say a prayer for your friend, blessings to her.
xo
Those are the most beautiful photos. Love the fish shot and the proud grandpa.
