Abbott visited a synagogue this morning with his fourth grade class, as part of their study of world religions. I’ve never been to one; I wish I had been able to accompany him. In December, they’re going to visit a mosque.In between taking my car in to have the brakes replaced, getting my knives sharpened, and various other things, I sat in a café and ate a meal alone. I’ve never done it before; usually I’ll grab a sandwich to go if I’m alone. I enjoyed it far more than I would have expected. I felt myself really relax as I observed my surroundings and savored my espresso. I didn’t even read.
In other news, a small lizard has taken up residence in our garage. I suspect his days are numbered, as we do have two cats. And he’s a bold one – he ventured out to sunbathe on the porch and barely glanced in our direction when we returned home from school yesterday.

I like to sit alone in a cafe to eat lunch. Haven't done it in a long time though. Not since my days in London, before the kids were born. I want to take myself out to lunch now.

I love sitting alone in a cafe. It's especially nice if you are in a city or town other than your own. I like being a complete stranger.
I never do that either, sitting alone to have lunch in a cafe. I did it once, long ago, and I remember how I liked it, how good it felt somehow. Thanks for making me remember, I have to do that again some day soon.
I take myself to lunch quite often, and enjoy it very much. I see more and more people doing this as well. They may have their laptops and various other electronic devices. I smile when I see someone reading a newspaper.
I had dinner once by myself - and it was only because I felt like having a beer, and sitting down for dinner seemed better than sitting alone in a bar (this was ages ago in Rome, where women alone had a hard time)! As far as I remember, I didn't enjoy either my drink nor my food.
I hope you get to visit the mosque. I have done that before and havefound it to be a profoundly hopeful experience to learn and share in that way.
Your lizard reminds me of a small frog we once had visiting our home. He kept popping up everywhere.
