As I unpacked the grapefruit from the grocery bags, I remembered a cocktail we made a few times last winter. Our friend Gary told Alexi about it, or about an approximation of something like it he'd had. It's too good not to mention, here. I plan to make some this weekend; maybe you will, too.
1.5 oz grapefruit juice
1.5 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur
1.5 oz vodka
Chill cocktail glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the above ingredients. Shake well. Strain into the chilled glass. Enjoy.
Serves 1.

Is that cocktail called a greyhound? I love greyhounds. Alcohol and vitamin c all in one :)
Where do you find the elderflower liqueur? That sounds delicious, though in my condition I can't partake, but I'll put it on the list for after April!
I've never been a huge fan of grapefruit, but it makes a wonderful salad with avacado and spinach.
And the produce displays at our grocery store alway get me!
I laughed when I read your comment about the HP audio. Great minds think alike, and I am truly happy to know I'm not the only one who took advantage of the library that way! (although I do need to redo #4 as there are some glitches). Gillian has been reluctant to read the books for some reason, and the audio has finally got her interested...to my great happiness and relief.
Tracy: a greyhound is just grapefruit juice and vodka, and, I think, is usally served over ice.
Jess: you should be able to find St. Germain at your local liqueur store.
I like them pure.
A lot of vitamine C.
I was just excited to see the grapefruit. I didn't know there was a nice chilled cocktail hidden in here. Thank you.
I have one sitting in my fruit bowl. I need to remember to eat it for breakfast in the morning.
Oh. Yum.
