I put out a bowl of walnuts on the coffee table; in the act, I felt as if I was commencing the holidays.
We're coming home from hockey practice, now, in the dark. I like seeing the lights in the windows of neighbors’ houses; the surprising numbers of people out walking their dog or just walking, despite the dark. And I especially like listening to the sound of the surf as I get out of the car and fumble to unlock the door. I can hear it more in the dark, without visual distractions.
My throat's sore, but I'm going to pretend I don't notice and see what happens.
