Sunday night

The first time I saw the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s The Nutcracker, it made me look forward to seeing it with kids of my own. This year, we finally managed to see it as a family. Before Abbott and Cal were school age, we worried it would be too long for them to sit through. The past couple of years when we've brought it up, they haven’t wanted to go, because they had the perception that boys don’t go to the ballet. But Abbott has been working on some piano music from The Nutcracker, and really loves it, so he recently asked to go. (It also didn’t hurt that one of his male classmates recently saw it and liked it.) We had a wonderful night. Both boys were, at times, on the edge of their chairs; at times chortling. We discussed our favorite parts and the characters all the way home, and they danced their way to bed.

Lecia, I was at the matinee with my girls yesterday. I look forward to hopefully our whole family going next year when my son is old enough. Maybe. Nutcracker is one of my favorite holiday things. It really is magical and the kids love it.

Do you think Xbox is really less fun than pacman, or is it just that we are older now? I always wonder about these things.

Take care-Julie W.

isn't it great when kids overcome those stereotypes that society instills in them? love it-so extremely gratifying as a parent. we took our big kids to see the nutcracker on saturday night and my son liked it more than my daughter!

It is great that they chose to see it and enjoyed it.

Memories...

The Nutcracker was the first ballet performance I experienced live.

Oddly enough, though I love going to the ballet I am not so fond of the Nutcracker. I did once see the Nutcracker on ice performed in Jesse Hall....which is MU's main auditorium, where most professional shows come here in town. It was unintentionally hilarious.

I'm glad you all had fun with it! I do need to take the girls soon...maybe next year.
