We traveled to Wenatchee for the weekend in order for Abbott to play hockey. Drove through a mountain pass and snow flurries, and orchards covered in snow. The clerk at the hotel was genuinely nice, in that unhurried way you find in smaller towns. As it so happened, the regional Special Olympics were happening there this weekend. It was inspiring talking with some of the athletes and their families who were staying in our hotel.
This morning, Cal and I took a walk along the river while Abbott got ready for his game; the source of the lower pictures here. On the way home, we stopped in Leavenworth, a pseudo-Bavarian touristy town, for lunch. We ate at a Mexican place, then spent far too long browsing a Christmas shop.
I wouldn't say that I travel well - I don't like to leave without everything in its place, and I don't rest when we're home until it's all put away. But the experiences always change us in some way, stretch us. And that alone makes it worthwhile.
