at this point in July

A few more pictures from our time in New York last week.

This morning I bought a flat – 6 pints – of strawberries and a flat of raspberries, a cantaloupe, a bag of cherries and a carton of blueberries. The cashier asked me, ‘What are you going to do with it all?’ I told her, ‘We’re going to eat it.’

I miss my sister. I miss being east - the warm nights; the more golden quality of the light. Seattle is quite a bit north of New York City. We’re even slightly north of Alexi’s father, who lives in Nova Scotia.

The boys are attending a kayaking and sailing camp this week. At the end of the day, I came in to see Cal jumping into the lake with his clothes on, again and again and again. Others were jumping in also, though most had changed into swimsuits. He was the last kid out of the water.

We have a little lemon tree we keep on the deck outside our bedroom in summer. Alexi and I sat and watched a bee pollinate its blossoms as the sun went down.

I worry about this summer slipping through my fingers.

It looks like Lady M? They have a scrumptious 200 layer crepe cake or something like that. The boys must be so happy to be back to clean air :-)

I understand the worry. It's a good one. Luckily you excel at being present.

Edi: Yes - Lady M! And, alas, we have air quality issues here, too - not just an east coast problem! Among other sources of pollution, we watch the container ships, cruise ships, tankers, etc belch out black exhaust every single day.

Diane, Denise: thank you.

I love the way you assemble thoughts and images, Lecia. By chance, by truth, just like life.

Happy July to you. Looks like your catching a bit of summer as it flies by.
